My preoccupation with the perfect space between two beautifully constructed letters is thrilling, almost like pursuing the universal truth. It must be the left-handedness in me, causing compulsive obession to run through my brain and my pen. My hand lettering speciality is based on the ancient italic script "Copperplate" writing style, but I like to develop my own styles inspired by everything from architectural lettering to old French schoolbook labels.
The beauty of a handwritten piece—whether it is a manuscript, invitation, business/calling card or historical document—has fascinated me for years. I love hand lettering wedding invitations for brides-to-be and incorporating calligraphic elements into logos for those who are looking for a new way to present their business to the world. The gracious reserve of hand lettering is a powerful form of distinction, especially in these times of insistent advertisement and cursory communication.
